Background: Born in Kibera, Maxwell was raised by a single parent and grew up in a humble Christian family. His mother worked extremely hard to make ends meet for her son until he managed to complete Primary School. As a merited scholar, he aspires to make good use of the opportunity, and excel both in academics and character, to shape his future.

Unique Element: Maxwell has unique problem-solving techniques that he uses to bring peace among humanity. He is also a young leader with an above average self-esteem.

Chacha Sheba Hope

Favorite Subject: Biology, Mathematics and English

Aspirations: She is yet to make a final decision, but the medical and engineering fields are of interest when it comes to focusing on her career for the future.

Background: Sheba comes from a humble background, with both parents and 5 siblings. Her father is the breadwinner and a teacher by profession. Growing up in Kibera has come with its fair share of uncertainties. Often, she missed classes for lack of tuition fees and lack educational resources. This however did not deter her from performing well in Primary School. Sheba believes that the WOAN scholarship has been a blessing and has given her hope for a better future and possibility of a secured livelihood.

Unique Element: She likes reading novels, writing, listening to music and singing.

Aisha Mohammed

Favorite subject: Kiswahili

Aspirations: Her dream is to become a lawyer. This is motivated by the need to fight for the rights of the underprivileged in her society and community.

Background: Coming from a family of nine, Aisha and her younger sibling were accommodated by her aunt in Nairobi. As a casual worker, the aunt is depended on in supporting their welfare and as well in part in their academics. Going through and completing primary school was quite difficult owing to the financial status of the family.
Even so, she did not see herself getting admission to a boarding high school. Nonetheless, the scholarship support was a blessing and Aisha is grateful to be part of the Angaza program. Her prayer is that CFK will continue with its growth and continue with this noble course to equally needy students.Unique Element: She is fond of writing Swahili poems (Mashairi).

Purity Kerubo

Favorite Subject: Mathematics, Physics and English.

Aspirations: WOAN Scholarship has given her a glimmer of hope to better her life and she is determined to do so!

Background: She is the only child in her family. While she was still young, she lost her father and life became unbearable having lost an able bread-winner. Her mother had to work extra hard to make ends meet. Her mother works as a cleaner and they currently live in Kianda Village, Kibera. Purity admits that were it not for the scholarship support, she would not have enrolled in a boarding school, better yet getting a quality education.

Unique Element: Purity loves playing badminton. Moreover, she is thankful for having become part and parcel of CFK family. Her family lifestyle is bestowed upon the culture of hard work, humility and determination.

Felix Odhiambo

Favorite subject: History and English

Aspirations: Felix intends to venture into business when he grows up. Pursuing a degree in Business Management is key for him to realize this, with the dream of becoming a person of value in his community

Background: Felix was born and raised in Lindi village, Kibera. An orphan and raised by a single mother, it has been an uphill task for the family to sustain itself and support the academic pursuits of both him and his 2 sisters. Sadly, his first-born sister dropped out of school in class 7 due to lack of fees. His mother, without formal employment, struggled between doing casual jobs and small businesses to sustain the family. As the first to attend high school in his family, Felix is equally grateful for the opportunity to be mentored and interact with diverse student populations, both current and alumni.

Unique Element: Besides focusing on his studies, Felix is an artist and a comedian

Otieno Benedeta Mrass

Favorite Subject: Biology

Aspirations: WOAN Scholarship has given her a glimmer of hope to better her life and she is determined to do so.

Background: Benedeta comes from a family of 10 siblings living in Raila village, Kibera. It has been an uphill task for the parents to provide the family’s basic needs due to the lack of formal employment. Her dream of accessing quality education was on the line when seeking high school admission, as availability of funds was scarce. Scoring a good grade in her final primary school examinations was far easy than getting the support needed to be admitted to high school. As the only child in her family who has had the privilege to attend a secondary (boarding) school, she intends to inspire her other siblings to also follow suit.

Unique Element: Faced with unique challenges of being a teenage mother and a beckon of hope, Benedeta aspires to be a medic, with a focus on orthopedics.
